"Wirral CVS is unsing hero" says MP

More than 20 top business people from across Wirral came together at a recent breakfast meeting to discuss the work of Wirral CVS and explore ways of supporting us and wirral community groups in the future.

Business for Communities is an initiative launched by Wirral CVS and a number of local business to encourage companies in the area to get involved in supporting community projects around Wirral.

Member of Parliment for Wirral West, Stephen Hesford attended the meeting, he told the group:"Wirral CVS is the unsung hero in the local voluntary and community sector. Not well known outsite the sector, not especially emotive in thier appeal to the wider community. They work quietly and tirelessly in the background providing vital support that charities, voluntary and community groups need in order to be the best that they can be for thier beneficiaries.

Youngest ever recipient of the Overall Volunteer of the Year Award.

Not only did 20 year-old Daniel Chu pick up the award for Young Volunteer of the Year, but also went on to be presented with the award for Overall Volunteer of the year 2008.

The Birkenhead lad volunteers with Merseyside Police as a Special Constable and has recently been promoted to Sergeant. He countinues to volunteer for St John's Ambulance, where he has don so for the last 13 years!

Daniel, who has given a stanggering amount of his free time to work at Upton Police Station said: I do eventually want to become an officer and being a Special Constable is a stepping stone for me to learn the processes and the paperwork involved.

"The most enjoyable part of policing is seeing the difference I'm making to the kids' lives, keeping them away from underage drinking and getting them involved in other activities, such as youth clubs and stuff like that. I have wanted to be a police officer since I was about 10, and always like the uniform."
